This beautiful venue is located on Cable Street. In 1936, London's East End residents stopped a fascist march by uniting against them. This clash, known as the Battle of Cable Street, is a symbol of resistance against fascism. The side of St George’s Town Hall features a beautiful mural in memory of this fight, painted by artists Dave Binnington, Paul Butler, Ray Walker and Desmond Rochfort between 1979 and 1983.
WHAT IS WILTON’S MUSIC HALL?
Wilton’s Music Hall is the world’s oldest surviving music hall, dating back to the mid-1800s with many original features. Music halls were popular venues for affordable and accessible entertainment, and had a big influence on later forms of entertainment like vaudeville and modern variety shows.
Wilton’s is still an active venue which hosts all kinds of shows – all hiring costs are invested back into maintaining the venue and supporting the arts.
